Wild Alaskan Blueberries

The Kyani sunrise is a blend of different health promoting super foods.  The real workhorse of this product, though, is the Wild Alaskan Blueberry.  The blueberry is a food with amazing antioxidant capabilities.  Compared to other foods, just one serving of blueberries will give you as many antioxidants as five servings of carrots, apples, broccoli, or squash.

Flavonoids (a class of polyphenols) is what is responsible for the blueberries antioxidant capabilities.  The particular flavonoid in this case is called anthocyanin, which is located in the skin of the blueberry.  Anthocyanin also gives the blueberry its signature blue-purple pigment.  It makes sense that antioxidants would be concentrated in the skin of the blueberry as that is where it is most vulnerable to oxidative stress from the environment.

Even though the normal, domestic blueberry is quite powerful, the Wild Alaskan Blueberry is approximately 48% stronger.  Knowing that the antioxidants are found in the skin of the blueberry is the key to understanding why the Wild Alaskan Blueberry is so different.  The Wild Alaskan Blueberry must survive the harsh growing conditions it is subjected to in Alaska.  This means oftentimes being exposed to a very cold environment.  It is understandable, then, that the Wild Alaskan Blueberries skin (its only means of protection) must be fortified with a higher concentration of anthocyanin, or antioxidants.

ORAC Score - Rating Antioxidant Potency

The Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) is an assay that is designed to measure the degree of inhibition of free radical induced oxidation by the compound of interest.  ORAC basically boils down to being a measuring stick of a compounds antioxidant potential.

In a recent report by the USDA, published in May 2010, several foods are measured for their ORAC score.  Wild blueberries topped the list with a total ORAC score of 13,427 per serving size.  This was under raw unprocessed Cacao (28,000 per serving) and small red beans (13,727 per serving size).

Since the Kyani Sunrise not only has the world's most powerful blueberry, but is also a blend of several different super foods, and it boasts an ORAC score of 34,996!
This makes it twice as powerful as the nearest nutritional supplemental drink on the market.
